A man who laced treats with sleeping medication and distributed them to children at a youth camp in the area has admitted sexual offenses against two boys aged between nine and ten.
The defendant was detained after eight youngsters and an older person fell ill at the location in mid-summer.
The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at the courthouse on Friday.
However, he denied one particular crime he was charged with, which was involving a nine-year-old child.
Ruben was kept in jail before a additional proceeding on November 28th.
'Candy game'
The prosecutor, prosecuting, detailed the defendant's actions to the court.
She stated his victims were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a summer program which he ran.
The defendant engaged in a "sweet game" with the minors, the legal counsel explained, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to consume candy "as quickly as they can".
She stated to the judge the man had played this game with the young males "over an extended period", and children had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.
She explained the defendant had been able to explain this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had worries in summer 2025.
The legal representative continued: "This year his stepson had concerns about what was going on, justifiably.
"They chose" to have a look in the man's possessions."
Mrs Prior KC stated objects including infant oil, petroleum jelly and syringes were located, and his stepson contacted the authorities about his suspicions.
She explained the man went on to conduct the "sweet game" with six boys that time - July 26th - and they were all ill the next day.
"Authorities" had not arrived by that time," she continued.
The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.
The prosecutor explained the minors were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so the stepson contacted the police a second time.
She said Ruben then played the "sweet game" in a space of five children.
